Investigating polar bear ecology in the Eeyou Marine Region of James Bay
Alexandra is a PhD student using hair snares, camera traps and Cree Knowledge interviews to investigate polar bear ecology with communities in the Eeyou Marine Region of eastern James Bay. In this project, Alexandra and teams from Waskaganish, Eastmain, Wemindji and Chisasibi are gathering information on polar bear genetics, diet, body condition and habitat use at the southern edge of global polar bear range. Alexandra is working closely with the Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board and Cree Trappers’ Association in this research.
